Why ‘Plurking’ is more FUN than ‘Tweeting’ !

September 17, 20083 Comments

Here’s the comparison of Plurk over Twitter. Plurk is currently a less popular micro-blogging destination but ultimately Twitter will keep tweeting but Plurk will grow steadily and will prove more engaging.

When it comes to micro-blogging,then Twitter is the service that completely rules. It has by far,the maximum micro-bloggers of the web, specially when it is compared with some other competitors like Friendfeed and Plurk, which also offer a similar concept.

The traffic graph from Compete clearly shows the leader and the strugglers in micro-blogging arena…

I’ve been using all these three services(Twitter, friendfeed and Plurk) and have spent minimum time with Plurk(just over a week) and maximum with twitter(for obvious reasons).

But there are a couple of things which make Plurk much more engaging than Twitter and hence more FUN

Let’s have a look at them…

…………………………..

Group conversations

Just tweeting “What are you doing” doesn’t engage users much. It’s the conversations that keep the user tweeting with a higher frequency.

In twitter, conversations do happen but infrequent and ‘one to one’.

In contrast,Plurk facilitates ‘Group conversation’ as well as ‘one to one’ which are damn easy to get into.

Group conversations keep the participant users engaged for much more time.

…………………………..

Timeline display

It’s all about representation at the end.

Plurk represents a user and all his friend’s responses in a timeline manner which is different and innovative.

If one wants to go back into the history of one’s lifespan at Plurk then he just holds the timeline and moves it from right to left, which seems really innovative and handy.

…………………………..

Karma

There’s a numerial value called “Karma” associated with every Plurk user that works as a sort of identityand reflects one’s activeness, network quantity, fan following and one’s overall ‘Weightage’ at Plurk.

Growing ‘Karma’ avails users with some emoticons and few other rights. This keeps the users plurking and staying active to have a better weightage than others. This factor is missing in case of Twitter.

…………………………..

Emoticons

Conversations and plurks become more interesting and engaging when emoticons become part of plurking.

…………………………..

No Sleeping whale

If one tweets regularly then he may easily face ‘sleeping whale’ once(or more) in a week.

But Plurk, being less crowded, shows no such messages atleast for now.

…………………………..

Conclusion

Twitter will keep tweeting(because of huge volume) but Plurk will grow steadily and will prove more engaging
