How to design a logo in Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop

In this tutorial I will demonstrate you about how to design a logo in Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop, follow below steps:

People think that designing a logo is a tough task but in reality it is not. With   help of se simple tools like Ellipse Tool, Grid & Star Tool you will be able to make   basic shape. After that with some strokes, radial/ linear gradient, Gaussian blur, radial blur & Drop Shadow you be able to see   final logo.

Our aim is to design this logo:

Construct a 700 pixel by 700 pixel document.  n turn   Grid (View > Grid) & Snap to Grid (View > Snap to Grid). After that, you will require a grid every 10 pixel. Just go to Edit > Preferences > Guides & Grid, put “10″ in “Gridline every:” Textbox & “1″ in “Subdivisions” textbox. Fore preview you can open Info palette with size of your shape. Doing this will help you in creating   logo quickly.

Choose   Ellipse Tool (L), hold Shift, Make a 600x600px shape & give a particular name to it like “01″. Leave it blank & add a 30 point, adjust it to center stroke.

Choose Star Tool, click & drag on Art board & do not release   mouse button. Press down arrow for subtracting sides of   star  n press “Ctrl’ key to manage   Inner Radius. Now with Direct selection Tool you must choose each anchor point & move it clearly. This can take little time. Now, take a closer at each anchor point to understand the exact position at   grid. This grid snap can help in getting an idea to move forward in work.

Now see   circle. Choose shape “01″ & hit Ctrl + C once after that hit Ctrl + F two times. This will put 2 new copies of “01″. Go to   Layer panel, choose   last copy & go to Object > Exp &  n choose   upper most copy & remove stroke. Again choose both shapes & click on Divide button from Pathfinder panel.  n you will get 3 new shapes. Again, go to Layers panel, delete   inner circle  After that separate these two shapes by pressing Shift + Control + G. Fill   shapes (remaining ones) through linear gradients as shown.

Choose   original “01″ shape & bring that to front by pressing “Shift + Ctrl + ] “. Lower   stroke size to 2pt after that go to Object > Exp & Appearance. Color   resulting shape with R=241 G=241 B=243. Alter   blending mode to Color Dodge, put down its opacity to 60%  n put Radial Blur effect (Effect > Blur > Radial Blur). Make a copy of that shape. Change its blending mode to normal, remove by erasing Radial Blur  n put up   opacity to 80%. Choose all shapes created till now except star shape & group  m. Give name to this group “Ring” & bring it to Front by pressing Shift + Ctrl +Choose   original “01″ shape & bring that to front by pressing “Shift + Ctrl + ] “. Disable Snap to Gird (Shift + Ctrl + “) & enable Smart Guides (Ctrl + U). Choose Pen Tool (P) & Make 3 paths for achieving   results shown in image 1. Each path will start & ends at an anchor point. Now, you will be able to easily locate   starting & ending anchor points with help of Smart Guide. Choose  se paths with Star shape & click on Divide button from Pathfinder panel. This will result inDisable Snap to Gird (Shift + Ctrl + “) & enable Smart Guides (Ctrl + U). This will result in dividing star into six parts or you can say shapes. Just fill  m with color &   gradients shown below.

Keep   Smart Guides enabled. Again choose   Pen Tool(P) & Make 2 paths as shown in first image. Leave it blank & add 5 points adjust to center stroke. Choose paths & go to Object > Exp & Appearance. Choose resulting shapes & click on   Unit button from Pathfinder panel. Pick Direct selection Tool (A), choose anchor points highlighted with green (image 4) & go to Object > Path > Average. Check both & click OK. Repeat the process for anchor points with blue & yellow.

Now,   shape developed in previous step must look like image 1. Select again Direct selection Tool (A) choose anchor points & move M towards the direction pointed by white arrows. Fill them with R=51 G=51 B=51, alter its blending mode to multiply, put down its opacity to 25% & add a 9 pixel Gaussian Blur effect (Effect > Blur > Gaussian Blur).

Again select Pen Tool(P). Let’s concentrate on center of star. Make 2 paths as shown in 1st

image. Now, fill with none & add 2 point adjust to center stroke. Use the average option on   anchor points highlighted in the image 4. Fill the resulting shape through linear gradient.

Copy the star component. Choose copies & click Unite button on Pathfinder panel. Fill resulting shape through radial gradient, Alter the blending mode to Overlay then lower the opacity to 30%. Put the shape above star shapes as in Layers panel.

Copy all shapes made till now. Choose all copies & click Unite button on Pathfinder panel. Choose the resulting shape, fill them with none & add 1 point, adjust to outside stroke. Choose this stroke & go on Object > Exp & Appearance. Fill the latest shape with radial gradient.

Once again, duplicate all   shapes created so far. Choose  se copies & click on   Unite button from   Appearance panel. Choose   resulting shape, Send it to Back (Shift + Ctrl + [), fill it with any color(i used white)  n add   discrete Drop Shadow effect (Effect > Stylize > Drop Shadow).

Now, for background choose Rectangle Tool (M). Make a 700 pixel X 700 pixel shape & fill that with radial gradient. Then, choose Flare Tool, add flare effect & change its blending mode to Overlay.

Choose Ellipse Tool(L) & Make shape like shown in image 1. Fill that with any color & add   Pucker, Bloat effect after that go on Object > Exp& Appearance. Choose latest resulting shape, fill that with white, add 4 pixel Gaussian Blur effect & copy it. Place them as shown below.

You are done now. Your resulting image should look like this given image.

Now, I think making any type of attractive logo in Adobe Illustrator or in Photoshop will be no more a challenging work for you, all you need to do is, just follow the above mention process as given for getting the required results. Keep trying different logos to improve your Photoshop skills.
