Australian Mayor threatens to file defamation case against ChatGPT

Brain Hood, a mayor of the Australian town Hepburn Shrine, has threatened to file a defamation case against ChatGPT’s parent company Open AI. This would be possibly the first-ever defamation case to be filed against ChatGPT. Hood said that he would go ahead and file the defamation case if Open Ai does not remove inaccurate information from its data system claiming that he has served time in prison for a bribery case. This case relates to the foreign bribery scandal in the early 2000s involving the subsidiary firm of Reserve Bank of Australia. Brain’s lawyer said that a notice has already been sent to Open AI on March 21 and has given 28 days to fix the error. Open AI has so far not commented on the issue.

Apple all set to open its first Retail store in India

The wait is finally over. India is all set to get its first ever exclusive Apple Store. The iPhone maker shared the first teaser of its first retail store in India on Tuesday. Located in India’s financial capital of Mumbai, the Apple Store will be officially known as Apple BKC. Although not confirmed, the tech giant is expected to open the retail store to public in the coming weeks. Apple now reportedly has plans to open second retail store in India’s national capital of New Delhi. Even though India currently does not contribute much to Apple’s topline, the iPhone manufacturer still has huge expectation from the Indian market in the long run.

Meta launches AI model that could identify items within images

Facebook and Instagram’s parent company Meta has announced that it has created an artificial intelligence (AI) model that could precisely identify objects within the images. The company has also claimed that its AI model has collected a dataset of image annotation that it claimed was the largest ever of its kind. Meta has named this AI model as Segment Anything Model or SAM. Meta said in one of the experiments it gave the text prompt ‘Cat,’ following which SAM started drawing boxes around several images of cats in the photo. Ever since the success of ChatGPT, Meta has been reportedly busy in testing several generative AI features.

Almost a month ago Snapchat had announced with lot of fanfare that it is adding ChatGPT feature in to its AI tool ‘My AI.’ However, fearing the concerns about the potential abuse arising due to ChatGPT, Snapchat has now announced that it has deployed some safeguards. This mainly includes Age filter and parental control. The age filter will enable Snapchat’s AI tool to take into consideration the age of the children while replying their queries. The parental control, on other hand, will allow parents to know how their kids are interacting with Snapchat’s AI tool. While ChatGPT’s phenomenal success has increased the expectation from AI, many experts are still concerned about the negative impact it could have on the society

WhatsApp is working on a major redesign

Instant messaging app WhatsApp may soon get a completely new look and design. WABetaInfo, which keeps tab of WhatsApp’s beta testing, has claimed that the WhatsApp is working to completely change its interface. Among the many changes, WhatsApp is planning to bring a bottom navigation bar to its Android version of the app similar to what we see on IOS. This navigation will eventually make it easier for users to navigate between different sections of the app and also make all the features more accessible.
