Here are the top trending stories from the world of technology. Stories that we feel every tech enthusiast should keep a tab on.

    1)

Twitter had planned to monetize porn content

The microblogging platform Twitter had made a freaking plan of making revenue through porn content. The Verge claims that the microblogging platform was working with several creators of adult content. However, the plan did not take off as Twitter admittedly realized that it lacked the tools to keep a tab on child sexual harassment and cutting off the access of adult content to the below 18 viewers. Despite being used by scores of high-profile celebrities, Twitter is still not a profitable platform and monetization continues to be a big pain-point for the company. The company is currently locked in a legal battle against tech billionaire Elon Musk.

Snap is laying off nearly 20 percent of employees

Video messaging platform Snap is all set to trim its workforce by 20%, which will end up snatching up the jobs of more than 6,000 employees in the company. The layoff will start from this week itself and is likely to impact all the major divisions of the company. This announcement is hardly surprising given that the company has already painted dismal scenario of its future earnings. Snap’s stocks have been nosediving ever since its disappointing quarterly results. But the video messaging company is not only one that is going for mass lay off. All the big tech companies including Meta, Google, Apple and Microsoft have either already started laying off or are soon likely to do so.

Google Play Store disapproves Donald Trump’s Truth Social App

Donald Trump’s fans and die hard followers won’t  be able to download Truth Social app from the Google Play Store. That’s because the Play Store has refused to approve the Truth Social app’s approval application, citing that the app is loaded with content that promotes physical threat and incites violence. Trump’s Truth Social app made a debut on Apple’s app store in February but the app has been suffering with technical glitches ever since its debut. The news is also out that the app’s parent company is almost cash strapped and does not have enough money to run the Former U.S. President’s pet project.

Elon Musk makes a fresh plea to delay the Twitter Trail

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has made a fresh request to the U.S. court to delay the Twitter Trail till November. According to the court’s filings, Musk’s lawyers have argued that the latest revelations made by the whistleblower and Twitter’s former cyber security chief  have added a Peiter Zatko. Among many sensational claims, Zatko had casted aspersions and doubts over Twitter’s claim that its fake & spam accounts are well within the control. Notably, Musk had sought to walk over the $44 Bn deal over the contentious issue of spam accounts. The Twitter case originally is supposed to start from October.

Reliance Jio working on Budget 5G Smartphones

    Reliance Industries MD Mukesh Ambani

Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio has ambitious plans of launching affordable 5G smartphones once the telecom major launches 5G services across the country during the Diwali festival. However, these reports have come at a time when the Indian government is reportedly planning to ban Chinese companies from selling budget smartphones in the country. Experts now argue that the Indian government’s decision may not help domestic manufacturers like Lava, Intex and Micromax but may certainly help Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio’s business. Reliance Jio, which mainly competes with Sunil Mittal’s Airtel, is reportedly planning to launch 5G services during the Diwali festival.
