Bike taxi major Rapido on Wednesday announced a great philanthropic initiative for supporting the ongoing COVID vaccination drive. Rapido said that it will provide free Rapido Auto rides to and from COVID- 19 vaccination centres for Delhi NCR citizens. Named as #RideToVaccinate, the company aims to offer a safe and accessible commute option to senior citizens eligible for vaccination across Delhi NCR.
Considering the fact that the Indian government’s third phase vaccination drive focuses on people above 45 years of age, Rapido’s latest initiative primarily focuses on people whose age is 45 or above. In the later phases of the #RideToVaccinate, the company said that it will target the younger generation.
Rapido will be providing free auto rides to some of Delhi’s leading hospitals inculding BLK Memorial Hospital, Max Hospital, Fortis Hospital, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Multispeciality Hospital and SJM Hospital.
On the launch of the #RideToVaccinate program, Aravind Sanka, Co-Founder, Rapido, said, “With the country undertaking the largest vaccination drive in the world, as a proud corporate citizen, we at Rapido, want to emphasise on the importance of vaccination among the elderly and those above 45, in the face of the pandemic. We are offering 100% off on rides up to Rs. 50 to all citizens in Delhi NCR eligible for vaccination in the current phase. Through #RideToVaccinate, we aim to remove any mobility barriers for the citizens to get vaccinated.”
Rapido recently hogged the limelight after its newly launched auto services clocked 1 Mn rides. The startup managed to achieve this feet within five months of the launch of its auto service.
Today Rapido is one of the leading bike taxi platforms in the country. The company claims to be India’s largest bike taxi platform and country’s third largest ride sharing player.
Competing with Bengaluru based Bounce, the company had raised $55 Mn as part of its series B round in 2019.
