Once your data is backed up, power down your PS5 completely and unplug it from the power outlet. Next, locate the hard drive door on the back of the console and open it.

Inside, you’ll see the hard drive bay with a small Philips head screws securing it in place. Remove these screws and lift out the hard drive bay cover. Gently pull out the hard drive from its connector and set it aside.

Now, take your new hard drive (it must be an 825 GB model specifically for the PS5) and insert it into the empty slot. Replace the bay cover and screw it back into place. Finally, reconnect your PS5 to the power outlet and boot it up as normal.

Your PS5 will now format the new hard drive and you can begin transferring data over from your backup. Keep in mind that you can only have one external storage device connected to your PS5 at a time, so you’ll need to remove any others before beginning this process.
