In a welcome move, Zomato on Saturday announced that from now on its female employees can avail up to10 day paid leaves for coping up with menstruation problems. This technically means that from now on Zomato’s female colleagues can avail 10 day extra leaves than its male counterparts. However, the Gurugram based company has specifically said that the employees can take only one-period leave for each menstrual cycle. Implying that the employees cannot take period leaves on a stretch or continuous bases.
By taking this bold decision, Zomato has joined the exclusive list of startups that offer period leaves for its female employees.
“Zomato understands that men and women are born with different biological realities. It is our job to make sure that we make room for our biological needs, while not lowering the bar for the quality of our work and the impact that we create,” Zomato’s founder & CEO, Deepinder Goyal, said in the company’s official blog.
Goyal further added that Zomato’s male males should not feel uncomfortable or biased about their female counterparts enjoying 10 day extra leave.
By the way, this 10 day period leave is also applicable on Zomato’s transgender employees.
In the past, Zomato has been found taking bold steps including on political issue that has often landed the company in controversies. However, there is nothing controversial but Zomato’s latest move. In fact, this decision can be termed unprecedented and can very well lay down new precedence in India’s startup industry.
