Vernacular publishing platform Pratilipi has reported steepest rise in its monthly active readers, clocking more than 15 million readers or MAU (monthly active users) in the span of last five months. With this milestone, the Tencent backed company’s monthly active readers have now crossed over 20 Mn.
Pratilipi’s co-founder and CEO Ranjeet Pratap Singh first shared the news on his official Twitter account. Speaking exclusively to Techpluto, Ranjeet said that 20 million MAU includes Pratilipi’s all core products including Web, Android and iOS. However, he pointed that newly launched products like Pratilipi Comics and Pratilipi FM did not account for the increase in MAU.
Commenting on factors that eventually helped in increasing Pratilipi’s MAU numbers, Ranjeet said “the company has consistently grown about 50% quarter on quarter, the base is bigger so the new addition looks much bigger as well. The lockdown did increase our usage but not significantly (about 20-25% additional growth on both readers and writers.”
When asked about the long term plan, the co-founder & CEO said that the company’s long term vision is to build “the largest storytelling platform in the world.”
Pratilipi has achieved this important milestone barely two months after mopping up INR 76 crore from Chinese internet giant Tencent in a series C round. The startup also counts Shunwei Capital, Omidyar Network, Nexus Venture Partners and Bennett Coleman & Company Limited (BCCL) among its high profile investors.
Pratilipi is essentially a self-publishing vernacular digital platform that aims to bring engaging content for Indian netizens in their own native languages. Available in 12 different Indian languages, the platform offers interesting content in popular formats like stories, poems, audio stories, articles, magazines, novels etc. Readers can access all these content absolutely free of cost.
