It’s now easier than ever to take a screenshot or screen recording on your phone, which means it’s also easier than ever for someone to take a screenshot or screen recording of your Instagram Story without you knowing. So, how can you tell if someone screenshotting Instagram stories?

Unfortunately, Instagram does not currently send you a notification if someone takes a screenshot or screen recording of your Story. However, there is a way to tell if someone has screenshotted or recorded your Story using the new story analytics feature. First, make sure you have the latest version of Instagram installed on your phone. Then, open up the app and go to your profile page by tapping on the icon in the bottom-right corner of the main screen. Next, tap on the three lines in the top-right corner of your profile page and then tap on “Story Settings.”

Under “Story Settings,” you should see an option called “Show Story Views.” If this option is turned off, tap on it to turn it on. Once you’ve done this, any time someone views your Story, their username will appear under each photo or video in your story for a few seconds before disappearing. So, if you see a username under one of your photos or videos that you don’t recognize, that means that person took a screenshot or screen recorded that particular photo or video in your story.

It’s important to note that this only works for people who are following you; if someone who isn’t following you screenshotting Instagram stories, their username won’t appear under the photo or video in question. Also, keep in mind that even if “Show Story Views” is turned off, people who have already taken screenshots or screen recordings of your stories will still be able to view them; this setting only affects future views.

What to Do If Someone Screenshots Your Instagram Story

Lucky for you, there’s now a built in tool that notifies you when someone screenshotting Instagram stories. Here’s how to enable it:

  • Open the Instagram app and go to your profile page by tapping the user icon in the bottom right corner

  • Scroll down and toggle on “Hide Story View Count.” Now when someone views your story, you’ll see a new icon that looks like two eye symbols with a line through one of them. This means that someone took a screenshot of your story.

If you’re not comfortable with people being able to see when you’ve screenshotted their story, you can always turn off this setting by following the steps above and toggling it off.

While screenshotting Instagram stories may seem like a relatively harmless act, it can actually have some pretty serious consequences. If you decide to screenshot someone’s story, they will be notified and they may not be happy about it.
