Google Innovation for Open or more popularly known as Google I/O is a 3-day annual developer conference conducted by Google in San Francisco. The much-anticipated meet finally began on 17th of May. Just like their tradition, since its commencement, Google has announced a lot of major updates to their apps and other projects.

Google made the beta version of Android O available to the world. According to Google, Android O is a step towards enhanced battery life and an improved security.  They also announced Android Go, a lightweight version of android for a fluid and a smooth user interface on low budget Android phones.

However, one of the most striking and surprising announcements among all was tossing up their personal assistant for the reclusive iOS. Yes, you read it right! The Google Assistant is now available on all iOS devices bearing version 9.1 or later.

Siri, Apple’s legendary voice assistant which indeed was one of their USPs has got a competitor. Although note that you can’t replace Siri with The Google Assistant. You can access it via a standalone app which can be downloaded from the AppStore.

Compared head to head in terms of functionality and features offered, Google Assistant has a cutting edge over the current version of Siri. Its clever AI-based algorithm ensures that you don’t need to bring up the focus topic back into the conversation after you ask your first question. It shrewdly identifies the subject and just needs you to elaborate on the matter.  If you want to turn on the flashlight of your iPhone, Google Assistant can do it for you. Also, you can ask your queries in text format if you don’t want to speak them up aloud.

As of now, Siri supports over 40 languages. In a contradictory oppose to that, the Google Assistant is only available in English. You can access Siri by long-pressing the Home Button or by just saying, “Hey Siri”. On the other hand, you need to open the Assistant app to use it. These are a few areas where Siri excels over the Google’s variant.

Nevertheless, Google announced that soon their personal assistant will support multiple languages including French, German, Brazilian, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, Spanish and Korean. Google Assistant, which was introduced for the first time on their recent flagship, Google Pixel, is currently existing on over 100 million devices in the market.

Yes, the competition with the classic, built-in and popular Apple’s intelligent personal assistant Siri is going to be tough but Google is always up for such challenges, isn’t it?
