Gamers Are Playing Fortnite More Than GTAV, COD, and FC 24 Combined!

The epic battle royale game by Epic Games, the Fortnite, just left the competitors eating away at its dust on the console platforms.

Based on the recent report from Ampere Analysis that was published on January 11th, 2024, Fortnite’s playtime has increased by a whopping 146% in November 2023 and an additional 9% in December 2023.

And just to give you an idea, this equates to over 1.6 billion hours of gameplay! In other words, console players have been playing Fortnite more than GTA V, COD, Roblox, and FC 24 combined.

About Fortnite

Fortnite is a 2017 battle royale game by Epic Games that is available to play for free on a wide range of platforms, including PCs, mobiles, and consoles.

Although the 100-player battle royale is the primary game mode, Fortnite also has 2 other gameplay modes: “Save The World” and “Creative”. While players defend their bases against zombies in “Save The World” mode, the Creative mode is where they create their own games and share them with others.

Reasons Why Fortnite’s Popularity Surged

The first immediate factor that comes to my mind when thinking about why Fortnite’s popularity surged can be traced back to a masterstroke by Epic Games where they reintroduced the original map of Fortnite. Yes, you guessed it right, I’m talking about Fortnite OG. Epic Games tapped into the forever appeal that nostalgia holds and successfully reignited the passion of long-time fans besides attracting newcomers.

However, Epic Games was merely warming up. Building further on this momentum, they struck gold when they introduced Lego Fortnite. For those who don’t know, Lego Fortnite is an innovative collaboration between Epic Games and Lego where the universal charm of LEGO toys combined with Fortnite’s dynamic world to create a magnet for gamers of all ages, and it further escalated the game’s popularity.

And if you think that’s it, NO. Epic Games didn’t stop there. They kept the excitement alive with more additions like Rocket Racing and the Fortnite Festival. Though these modes were less influential compared to Fortnite OG and Lego Fortnite, they still played a crucial role in maintaining the game’s upward trajectory.

In addition, as of writing, rumors are buzzing about upcoming game updates, which, as per one source, are expected to be “lit af”. Indeed, this will add more fuel to the already blazing Fortnite fire.

To Wrap It Up

While the surge in player engagement caught Epic Games by surprise, the developers are diligently working to sustain, if not amplify, this enthusiasm.

From my perspective, while Epic Games is committed to keeping the excitement high, it’s natural to expect some fluctuations in Fortnite’s average player count. These potential dips shouldn’t be a cause for concern as long as the developers continue to roll out compelling content.

Interestingly, there’s chatter in the gaming community about a possible return of Fortnite OG. Given its role in sparking the current frenzy, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it make a comeback, potentially in late 2024.

This move, if true, could serve as another jolt of energy for Fortnite’s already electrifying journey in the gaming world. What do you think? Share your thoughts with us and let us know in the comments below!
