Inkfruit clubs ‘Artistic designers’ and ‘Style fanatics’ (Special !)

By Prashant Sharma 22 October 2008 13 Comments

If you are a young lad and love sporting funky tees then InkFruit may satisfy your soul the most…

Inkfruit is India’s first online democratic community t-shirt brand till date(and probably the most successful as well)

Inkfruit is an indian portal for awesome t-shirts.It is also a platform for individual designers to submit designs, get acclaim, win prizes and have fun !

In their own words

Inkfruit is a place for people to submit, discover and buy amazing custom t-shirt designs created by artists from around the world. Based around an ongoing t-shirt design contest, all of the designs you see on Inkfruit have been submitted by our community

People submit their earth shattering design ideas for t-shirts.These designs are then voted and commented upon by an online community which collectively decides which designs go for printing. The winning t-shirts are then screen printed and made available for sale.

Almost all the t-shirts featured on Inkfruit for sale cost Rs.349/-(looks reasonable for well designed stuff).Reportedly, designers are paid Rs 20,000 worth prizes every month. Also, the name of designer features on the t-shirt label thus ensuring they get due credit for their creation and hard work.

The community gets to choose what they want to wear.It also empowers the designer community in India and gives them a place to showcase their talent.

Inkfruit, founded by Kashyap Dalal and Navneet Rai in December 2006 seems to be a remarkable amalgamation of ‘hardcore fashion industry’ and ‘social web’.So far, they have built a wide following countrywide.

Hence this website serves both the purposes effectively.Anyone who is fond of t-shirts gets to have an awesome t-shirt collection.Anyone who is fond of designing can design and be part of the community.

Special !

“What innovation/idea related to technology can take Inkfruit to even higher standards ?”

The designers can be given an option to add a self-made video(uploaded on Youtube) to their profile to pitch “Why should i be voted”.

Social networking would be an ideal thing for this to promote.. Nowaday people are setting up caps, apparels etc..

Social News will be again an unexplored thing.. you can submit the site url on social news such as digg, reddit etc.., naturally people visiting daily will surely notice new stuff coming up.

Flash out these pictures of people wearing Tshirts on Flickr, and write info on it and provide links

Cross linking of the website’s url is essential on all sharing sites.

I found these three things effective to set up a strong presence online..

Inkfruit ultimately sells a product(tees) but isn’t taking the benefit of commision based affiliate system, something what sellers like Amazon and eBay have been doing for years.

They can offer blogs and websites an option to get affiliated to them for free and start portraying Inkfruit’s featured tees on affiliated blogs/sites.

Any t-shirt sale executed will then fetch the referring blog/site a commision(say $0.5-$1).This will boost Inkfruit’s sales like anything

Nowadays in e-commerce attracting money/revenues is secondary, while, primary focus is on attracting users, as it is a proven fact that the revenues will automatically follow. So Inkfruit, should probably widen its target market by not just restricting to the ‘design cult’ and the ‘t-shirt cult’. Avenues I can think of are
    Personalized t shirts
    corporate/group bookings
Designer accessories (ex : mobile covers, photo frames etc)
Other popular articles where design can be put on (Coffee mugs, calenders etc)
Even making wall papers, screen savers out of users designs. With Inkfruits logo attached gives enough mileage to both.

Other way to please the users is definitely by displaying the tshirts in well known online/offline stores(tie-ups), something which user takes pride in and so spreads it by word of mouth.
Also on website part, there can better be different categories than just one, which I can see right now on main page. The categories should be such that every user feels a sense of belonging atleast to one of them.

Thats a great startup!! T shirts have always been everyone’s favorite and the self designed t shirts with credits to you is an unique idea.

    1)
To popularize more , Inkfruit should develop some avatar kinda application which people can share n their blogs, social profiles etc. The avatar should be linked to the account where the user will have listed their fav t shirt design. and he can select the tshirt to appear on his avatar. I think this will make Inkfruit more popular as the visitors to the profile will surely visit the site through avatar.

    2)
The users should be encouraged to submit their Pics wearing t shirts. Which can be shared through the major Photo sharing sites and the Social networking sites.

    3)
The Person whose t shirt is being sold out more should be given special mention on the homepage of the Inkfruit. Which will encourage more users to submit their designs.

I hope these ideas will be quite fruitful to InkFruit!!!

    hey priyanka,

    thanks…

but this one is just not for the T-shirts..

You can still organize a contest on social networking, for atleast one month and invite everybody to join in ur profile, group, community etc. and collect good number of database and keep them intact… and allocate 5 Tshirts.. You can engage this contest for a month… You can ever ask the users for reference and decide upon no. of people referred by a single user.. So for every 50 to 100 friends referred they get 2 Tshirts.

This way you can collect a database intact. and use them when needed for new launches etc…

I just saw the facebook page.. It has just 2 fans…
