MSE360 Review

MSE360 is a search engine that shows search results in a 3 tier layout. This provides blogs,Wikipedia, images and web results on one page

Whenever i come across startups building yet another search engine,i don’t expect something really exciting as Google has satisfied me(and the majority) to an extent where we don’t really bother to even search on Yahoo! or Live for any of our queries.Other search engines are nowhere on the hit list.

And i felt quite reluctant when i received a mail from a folk who had built another search engine called MSE360.But one thing that hit me hard was the cost that was involved in building this search engine.Just $1000.I suspect most of this amount was expended on coffee & snacks while developing this search engine..(joking)

MSE360 is a search engine that shows search results in a 3 tier layout. This provides blogs,Wikipedia, images and web results on one page. It’s surely not going to suit everyone but it might save you sometime specially when it comes to researching a topic.(As you get to have everything on a single page)In their own words

MSE360 is in many senses is an evolution of search. We wanted to give users the chance to get more information at once. All the current search engines are launching with the same old same out, so we decided to add some unique points

They have an internal antispyware program that detects sites which may be harboring malware. For instance,a search for ‘screensavers’ on MSE360 shows several results with a ‘virus icon’ next to them.If you don’t feel comfortable with cluttered & over-crowded search results then a tab based search has also been provided.

Created by UK based Daniel J Clarke,MSE360 is bagging 10k uniques a month at the moment.

The three tier search results(all-in-one result page) is looking a bit inspired from the “Yahoo’s Glue Page” which is undergoing beta-testing in Indian version of Yahoo!.

Below is a snapshot of Yahoo’s Glue page on ‘Taj Mahal’

This is a snapshot of MSE360’s results on ‘Taj Mahal’

To be very frank,i don’t expect MSE360 to cause any troubles to any other search engine pioneers(and not even the small players) but Daniel(founder) may start making a decent amount of profits as the investment is next to nothing.

When millions of dollars are spent every month to maintain a service then the service has to generate enough revenues for self-sustainence but MSE360,being so economical to founder’s pocket may get him good returns even if MSE360 manages to receive 60-70k uniques by the mid of next year.
