If you’re like me, you’ve been there. You’ve got your brand new iPhone, and everything is working great. But then, all of a sudden, your iPhone won’t make or receive calls but can text! Before you freak out, there are a few things you can try to fix this problem. In this blog post, I’ll share with you some of the things that have worked for me in the past. Hopefully one of them will work for you too!

Why your iPhone might not be making or receiving calls, but can text
Your iPhone might not be making or receiving calls because of a software or hardware issue. If you see “No Service” in the status bar of your iPhone, open Settings and turn on Airplane Mode, then turn it off after a few seconds. If you see a message that says ” Cellular Update Failed,” your carrier might be temporarily unavailable. Try again later.
If your iPhone won’t make or receive calls, but can text, there might be an issue with the cellular network that your iPhone is trying to connect to. If you’re in an area with low or patchy coverage, try moving to a different location. You can also try resetting the network settings on your iPhone:
- Open Settings and tap “General.”
- Tap “Reset.”
- Tap “Reset Network Settings.”
- Enter your passcode if prompted, then tap “Reset Network Settings” to confirm.
- If you’re still having trouble, contact your carrier for more help.
How to troubleshoot your iPhone if it’s not making or receiving calls

Do Not Disturb is on.
If you see a moon icon in the status bar of your iPhone, Do Not Disturb is on. To turn off Do Not Disturb, go to Settings > Do Not Disturb.
Airplane mode is on.
If the Airplane Mode icon shows in the status bar of your iPhone, tap it to turn Airplane Mode off. To turn Airplane Mode off using Control Center, swipe up from the bottom edge of any screen and tap the Airplane Mode icon . If you can’t find Control Center, go to Settings > Control Center and make sure that Access Within Apps is turned on.
Your iPhone is turned off or needs to be charged.
Press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo appear on your screen, then release the button. If you can’t see the Apple logo or if the logo isn’t appearing after you press and hold both buttons for about 10 seconds, connect your device to a power outlet using a Lightning cable or earlier iPhone model dock connector cable and try again after it begins charging (you might see a lightning bolt next to the battery icon).
How to fix your iPhone if it’s not making or receiving calls

- Restart your iPhone: If your iPhone is struggling to make or receive calls, try restarting it. To do this, press and hold the power button until the “Slide to Power Off” slider appears. Once your iPhone has turned off, press and hold the power button again until you see the Apple logo.
- Check for carrier updates: If you’re still having trouble after restarting your iPhone, try checking for carrier updates. To do this, go to Settings > General > About. If an update is available, you’ll see an option to install it.
- Reset your network settings: If you’re still having trouble after checking for carrier updates, try resetting your network settings. This will reset all of your cellular and Wi-Fi settings; however, it won’t delete any of your data. To reset your network settings, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
How to make sure your iPhone is making or receiving calls
If your iPhone won’t make or receive calls but can text, there are a few possible causes. First, make sure that your iPhone has service. Drag the slider to turn your iPhone completely off. Once your iPhone is off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
If your iPhone still isn’t making or receiving calls, there may be an issue with your carrier. You can check for outages in your area by going to Settings > Phone > carrier services and tapping Check for Outages.
How to troubleshoot your iPhone if it’s not making or receiving calls

If resetting your network settings doesn’t fix the problem, the next thing to try is restoring your iPhone from a backup. This will erase all of the data on your iPhone, so be sure to back it up first! To do this, connect your iPhone to iTunes and select “Restore from Backup.” Choose the most recent backup file and wait for the process to finish.
If none of these steps fix the problem, you may need to contact Apple support or take your iPhone to an Apple Store for further diagnosis.
