TikTok launches ‘Comment Dislike’ button for Global Users

TikTok had started pilot testing ‘comment dislike’ feature in April this year for limited users. But the video sharing platform will now be rolling out the ‘comment dislike’ feature to all the global users. This means that TikTok users can now dislike any comment for being malicious, abusive or any other reason. The company said that it will not show those comments that receive high number of dislike votes. TikTok is hopeful that launching this feature will help in better content moderation and bringing down abusive & toxic behaviour on its platform. The platform has been under scrutiny for promoting toxic behaviour among its users.

Instagram faced global outage for almost an hour across different parts of the world on Thursday night. As per media reports, scores of internet users were not able to login, not able to load feed and send chat messages. Almost an hour after the outage began, Instagram officially accepted on its Twitter handle about the problem. Twitter also exploded in a major meme fest as #Instagramdown started trending on the microblogging platform. Almost after two or so, the outage problem was finally fixed and the Instagram was back to its optimum performance. Although feeling competitive pressure from TikTok, Instagram still continues to remain one of the most visited social media platforms in the world.

WhatsApp Pay’s India Head Quits (Joins Amazon Pay)

In a major setback for WhatsApp Pay, the India head of the WhatsApp Pay operation Manesh Mahatme has resigned after a 18 month stint in the company. He will be reportedly joining the arch-rival and his former company Amazon Pay. This spells bad news for the Meta owned platform as it struggles to consolidate its position in the ruthlessly dominated UPI payment market. WhatsApp Pay was launched with lot of fanfare last year but has failed to make dent in the market where Google Pay and PhonePe have now become dominant players.

Billionaire Elon Musk has decided to help the U.S government in fighting internet censorship in crisis ridden Iran. Thousands of Iranian Women across the country have hit the street to protest against the forceful imposition of Hijab. As a result, Iran has banned all social media platforms in an attempt to curtail and supress information about the ongoing protest. However, to defeat the Iranian government on the censorship front, Musk had said that he will activate Starlink satellites in and around Iran. This will obviously give the Iranian citizens a much needed access to the Internet and inform the world about the ongoing protest happening in Iran right now.
