Google CEO Sundar Pichai met with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday to talk about the contracts and other continuing partnerships with the US government. President Trump tweeted “I just met with Sundar Pichai, President of Google, who is obviously doing quite well,” after the meeting was over. Trump iterated in his tweets that Google ‘President’ Sundar Pichai has assured him that the search giant is committed towards the US military and is not going to help the Chinese military in any way.

Trump also tweeted that the “meeting ended very well.” The crux of the matter is the recent accusation from the Pentagon that Google is helping the Chinese military indirectly. A US marshal went so far as to say that Google is serving the Chinese that will ultimately affect the US military. After the meeting, Google CEO and the US president have both reached an understanding and it seems the fear of Google assisting the Chinese against the US has been put to rest, for now.

A Google representative said in a statement “We were pleased to have productive conversations with the President about investing in the future of the American workforce, the growth of emerging technologies and our ongoing commitment to working with the U.S. government.”

Google’s contracts with the governments across the globe have raised eyebrows on several other occasions too. The employees within the company have protested against the move for developing a censored version of a search engine specific to the Chinese region. In fact, this particular project called Dragonfly was termed ‘hypocritical’ by some of the leading US military leaders.

For now, Google has been able to explain its position to the head of the United States and Sundar Pichai Gets Trump’s Backing. How well it will handle the requests of highly protective Chinese government once it enters inside its territory is altogether an uphill task in itself.
