ShareChat’s Moj leapfrogs Mitron and Chingari with 50Mn Download on Play store

ShareChat’s short video app Moj has leapfrogged its nearest rivals like Mitron and Chingari by crossing 50 Mn download mark on the play store. Both Motron and Chingari boast over 10 Mn download on the play store.

All these apps, the desi clones of Tik Tok, are trying very hard to fill the vacuum left over by the recent exit of TikTok following the government ban on Chinese apps.

Moj’s heavy market traction looks more impressive given that it entered the fray way too late. To be precise, it made debut on the play store on June 29, the same day when TikTok and rest of 58 Chinese apps were banned. Chingari and InMobi owned Roposo, on other hand, have been trying their luck in the short video market for more than a year. As for Mitron, it made debut nearly few months before the Indian govt decided to ban TikTok.

ShareChat’s Moj is now officially in the 8th position while its parent app ShareChat is holding 6th position in play store’s top free apps. ShareChat has claimed that the MOJ is also among the top 10 apps on IOS.

Roposo has also crossed 50 Mn download mark on play store but given that the app is more than a year old, its numbers don’t look as flattering as Moj. Moj’s highly impressive 5 crore download number will surely put some pressure on Chingari and Mitron to increase their subscription numbers. However, it must be noted that ShareChat enjoys a deep pocket compared to its above-mentioned competitors with microblogging giant Twitter being its most high profile backer.

In fact, only last month ShareChat has reported to have raised another internal funding of $40 Mn from existing investors. But Bengaluru based startup refuted this report.

“ShareChat does not generally comment on market speculations. However we can confirm there has been no such development at this time,” ShareChat said in response to the report.

Compared to ShareChat’s funding prowess, Mitron and Chingari have only now barely managed to raise some funds from investors. In fact, Chingari managed to raise its first funds, i.e. seed funds, barely a few days back.

If we compare total funds raised, ShareChat has till date raised $222 Mn whereas Mitron has raised only $20 Mn and $1.3 Mn respectively.
