India’s home grown social media platform ShareChat has appointed Ajit Varghese as its Chief Commercial Officer. Ajit Varghese is one of the leading names in the global advertising industry. With more than 25 years’ experience in scaling business operations and building robust businesses around different content avenues, Varghese brings to table a vast experience as well as proven skill sets for ShareChat.

Before joining ShareChat, Ajit was the Global President at Wavemaker, a WPP-group global media network. WPP-group again doesn’t need much introduction in the advertising industry. It is among the world’s top 5 media networks and counts companies like Vodafone, L’Oreal, Huawei, IKEA, Paramount Pictures among its high-profile clients.

As ShareChat’s Chief Commercial Officer, Varghese will focus on the platform’s revenue efforts and create a robust monetization approach with strategic content partnership. Additionally, he will also look into company’s marketing function.

As per the official press release, Varghese will directly report to Farid Ahsan, COO and Cofounder at ShareChat.

The key appointment has come at a time when ShareChat is making desperate attempts to fill the market void post-TikTok ban. Although ShareChat is the only platform that is seeking to take advantage of TikTok’s absence, it certainly seems to be in more advantageous position. Simply because its recently launched MOJ app has done comparatively well in the market.

The short video app currently boasts 50 Mn downloads and is currently among the topmost short video apps in the country.

ShareChat and other home grown videos are also buoyed by the fact that Indian government recently decided to ban Snack Video. Snack Video was another Chinese short video sharing app that was fast conquering the Indian market. Its exponential growth was posing a grave danger to India’s home grown players like ShareChat, Mitron and Chingari.

Joining ShareChat, Ajit Varghese, Chief Commercial Officer, ShareChat, said, “Having previously worked and transformed several global organisations, it has always been a hidden desire to contribute towards transforming an Indian organisation to global repute. I believe ShareChat in the next few years will evolve as the default partner to every brand, homegrown and global, who intends to engage with the internet-first population.”

He further added “As the digital advertising landscape awaits the inclusion of over 400 million new internet users, mostly inclined towards native languages, ShareChat will stay at the forefront of unveiling a new digital era. This will be an exciting journey for me as I look forward towards contributing to ShareChat’s growth and building a win-win relationship with our community of users, partners and business stakeholders.”
