Bengaluru based food tech startup MonkeyBox Raises pre- Series A funding from Blume Ventures

The food tech startup MonkeyBox Food Tech Pvt. Ltd has raised undisclosed amount from Blume Ventures and other small investors as part of its pre- Series A round. This is the second time that Blume Ventures has reasserted its faith in MonkeyBox. Last year in November, it along with other investors had led the seed funding round in the Bengaluru based food tech startup.

MonkeyBox, which provides notorious tiffins to school students across Bengaluru, will use the fresh capital infusion to expand its business to other parts of the city. Currently, the startup offers service only in Bengaluru city. However, despite its services being restricted to Bengaluru, the company this year made a bold move by acquiring Delhi based juice manufacturer and delivery firm RawKing.

Food tech startup MonkeyBox raises pre- Series A funding from Blume Ventures.

This food tech startup was founded by Sanjay Rao and Sandeep KN in 2015 with the noble aim of redefining the school tiffin box for once and ever. They seek to do this by cooking every dish in state-of-the-art kitchen and by highly experienced chefs. The company also claims that each dish is supervised by an equally experienced nutritionist.

MonkeyBox so far has made a decent progress as is indicated by the company’s own statistics. It reportedly boosts 2,000 subscribers for tiffin boxes that are supplied mostly between the age group of 3 to 18 years old. The startup has also tied up local farms and distributors to ensure that the meals are cooked only with fresh ingredients.

The nutritious food & health segment has gained a lot of tractions over the last one year, with many successfully raising funds from prominent VC’s. The most prominent being Hyderabad based HealthSutra and Bengaluru based Curefit, while another nutritious meal delivery startup First Eat raised seed funding in February last year.

The emergence of these nutritious food startups is propelled by various conductive factors, such as growing awareness about healthy lifestyle and city’s fast paced life not making it easy to live a healthy life. But are these factors good enough to lay strong foundation growth for these startups. Well, time will be a better judge of that. Until then it is all about trying and being perseverant for these startups.
