Microsoft Copilot gets integrated with OpenAI’s latest model (GPT-4 Turbo) and Dall-E 3

Microsoft has just made a big announcement for its Copilot’s AI chatbot. It will now be integrated with OpenAI’s latest LLM model GPT 4 Turbo, which technically means that Copilot’s AI chatbot will be now well positioned to respond to more complex and tougher queries. In addition to GPT 4 Turbo, Copilot is now also powered by OpenAI’s latest image generator DALL-E 3 and a feature designed for coders called Code Interpreter. Currently all these integrations are in beta testing phase but they certainly promise to improve the overall efficiency and functionality of Microsoft Copilot. Last but not least, Microsoft is also updating its Bing search with OpenAI’s GPT 4 model.

Elon Musk’s AI startup ‘X.AI’ plans to raise $1 Bn

X.AI, the new AI startup started by tech billionaire Elon Musk, is reportedly in talks to raise $1 Bn through new equity funding round. X.AI has already raised $135 Mn from four investors, according to latest filing that the company has filed with SEC. Barely a few weeks back, X.AI launched its first chatbot into the market called Grok, which will be soon integrated with ‘X.’ Trained on X’s real-time data, Grok will directly compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. By planning to raise $1Bn, Musk has made it clear about his big ambitious plans for X.AI and its AI chatbot Grok. But there is still clarity when will this funding round materialize and which investors is Musk in talks with to raise the funds.

Meta & IBM form an AI alliance group with aim to keep AI open source

Meta, IBM and dozens of other companies including Intel and Oracle have announced an industry AI body whose sole purpose would be to promote a more collaborative and open method to develop artificial intelligence technology. In principle, it directly challenges Open AI and Google, who are developing AI technology in a close system. This philosophical debate has become the central theme in determining the future of AI, with many arguing that developing AI in open-source method will ensure that no company will get enjoy a monopoly in AI and also the fact that open source augurs well for the overall innovation in the AI technology. Only time will tell how beneficial this AI alliance group prove for the open source development of the AI technology. They alliance group will also focus on providing AI education and training to programmers and developers.

New Beeper Mini app bring Blue Bubble Texts to Android users

There is yet another new app in the market with promise to bring iMessage to Android users. This new app is Beeper Mini, launched by multi-platform messaging aggregator ‘Beeper.’ Beeper Mini allows Android users to send and receive end-to-end encrypted iMessage chats for just $1.99 per month. This is a significant breakthrough as it allows Android users to have the same messaging experience as iPhone users, including features like high-res media, threads, reactions, and end-to-end encryption. Beeper has made this possible through what it calls ‘reverse technology.’ The company claims that this is a highly complex technique and its engineering team had work immensely hard to implement. However, it is important to note that Beeper Mini is not an official product apple and nor is it recognized by Apple.

Twitch is shutting down its business in South Korea

Amazon’s streaming unit Twitch is all set to cease its operation in South Korea from February 2024. The company said that cost of doing business in South Korea was simply too high, citing factors such as network fees, content licensing costs, and local taxes as contributing to the decision. Twitch’s departure from South Korea marks a significant loss for the country’s gaming community. The platform was widely popular among Korean gamers, with a large and active user base. The decision also serves as  a reminder about the persistent challenges in the South Korean gaming market, particularly the challenge of high operating cost.
