Google to starting Deleting Inactive Accounts from December

Google’s host of services including YouTube, Google Workspace & Gmail are among the most used services in the world, boosting billions of users. However, in order to beef up its security, Google has now announced that it will soon start deleting accounts that have remained completely inactive for nearly two years. The search engine giant said that accounts owned by schools and business organizations will remain unaffected by this new policy decision. The company added that it will notify the users in coming months before proceeding with the process of deleting the inactive accounts. Google is likely to start deleting inactive accounts from this year December.

YouTube is Promoting Gun Violence among the Kids, claims Report

Google owned streaming platform YouTube is apparently playing a massive role in spreading the gun-violence culture among the young kids, according to a new report published by the non-profit watchdog group Tech Transparency Project (TTP). The report especially pinned the blame on YouTube’s recommendation algorithm for promoting gun-centric and violent content among young kids expressing strong interest in video games.

Instagram Users can now Comment on GIF Posts

Instagram has announced the launch of a new feature that was long overdue as it finally allows the users to comment on GIF posts. Instagram’s CEO Adam Mosseri announced about this much awaited feature in his recent Instagram Channels chat with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. During the chat session with boss Zuckerberg, Mosseri also said that Instagram is currently testing lyrics in its short video creation platform Reels. Instagram now assumes huge importance for Meta especially in the wake of tepid growth in Facebook’s userbase. However, due to increasing competition from TikTok the photo sharing platform has been under pressure to keep experimenting new features.

AI could be used to Compromise Elections, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman claims

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, informed the senate panel on Tuesday that artificial intelligence (AI) can interfere with elections and impact its outcome. Altman added that “I’m nervous about it” and emphasized that AI needs strict regulation to lessen its interference in the election proceedings. OpenAI’s CEO statement comes at a time when the public discourse about AI’s adverse impact on humanity is gaining lot traction. While social media’s negative impact on global democracies is already a hot topic, the increasing commercialization of AI has only further complicated the matter. The growing commercialization of AI in the wake of emphatic success of ChatGPT recently prompted an open letter urging companies to temporarily halt the work on AI projects. This open letter was signed by the likes of Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak.

Another Apple Engineer has been Accused of stealing Trade Secrets

Apple has filed a case in the federal court in the Northern District of California against its ex-employee for allegedly stealing trade secrets. The name of this former Apple employee is Weibo Wang, who is 35-year-old and had joined the tech giant in March 2016. He was working on Apple’s secret car project. Apple has accused in its affidavit that Wang had stolen several technology secrets and transferred the same to a Chinese company.  This is third Apple engineer who has been accused of stealing technology secret from its secretive car project on the behalf of a Chinese company.
