FICCI TURF 2013: 5th Global Sports Summit

TURF 2013, India’s fifth International Convention on sports business was launched today here at FICCI Federation House and this conference had proved that India has a surfeit of investment and growth opportunities in the Sports industry.

The theme for India’s largest international sports convention was, “Corporatization of Indian Sports”. This was the 5th global sports convention focused on the business of sports in India. The intention of this convention would be to bring together the most relevant stakeholders supporting the growth of sports industry in India and create business opportunities for all involved.

Besides initiating a conversation between academia and industry for recital enrichment and promoting industry’s demand driven research and advancement by academic community, TURF 2013 dealt with the following topics:

  • Engaging the stakeholder: Indian and Global
  • Promotion of academies of Excellence
  • Empowering Women and Girls through Sports
  • Building a socially responsible brand through sports
  • Linking education to employability : Institution Capacity Building
  • Setting up Sector Skill Council in Sports and Physical Education
  • Professionalization of sports in India
  • Monetizing Sports competitions in educational establishment
  • Case Studies: Successful PPP initiatives
  • Regulation of Sports : Performance and balance sheets

This event was attended from many foreign delegates and countless prominent industry representatives.

Mr. Rajpal Singh, Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, FICCI, shared: “At FICCI sports our vision is to professionalize the sports industry in India and make India a sporting nation. Our efforts and experience in organizing India’s biggest sports convention, TURF, lead us to believe that such a convention was necessary and required for the growth of the football industry in India. This initiative will bring together all the major stakeholders and influencers in Indian football under one roof to discuss and deliberate the next steps to grow the sport of football in India.”

The 2 day long convention included conferences, B2B Meetings, networking lunch and dinner and exhibitions as well.

Sanjiv Paul, Chairman, FICCI Sports Committee & MD, TATA Metaliks, said: “FICCI’s TURF has been instrumental in suggesting policy reforms, stimulating sports development and connecting stakeholders at all levels. TURF 2013 is going to focus on challenges and opportunities for entrepreneurs, raising the standards of sports & physical education and improving the employability of human resources, which we believe are critical for growth of sports sector in India.”

TURF 2013 had Indian and international experts premeditated on challenges and opportunities in business of sports in India with a focus on linking education to employability by institution capacity building and improvising sports and physical education in India.
