Deloitte to use AI to deal with mass layoff problem
Auditing and consulting company Deloitte, which has large workforce across the world, is aiming to avoid significant layoffs while adapting to changing market needs. To succeed in this challenging task, the company is going to take the help of AI, which would help in analysing employee skills and project future demand within the company. This data is then used to reskill and upskill employees and for strategic hiring, which can ultimately help in reducing the reliance on mass layoff and increasing workforce adaptability. Although only time will evaluate whether this experiment succeed, this is another example of companies using artificial intelligence for solving some of their complex problems.

Spotify is testing AI generated Playlist Feature
Spotify has confirmed that it is currently testing a ChatGPT like feature that will allow its users to create a playlist based on prompts. Users have to just type what kind of music they want to listen and Spotify’s AI will do the rest for you. To get you started, Spotify will also give several suggested prompts. However, the streaming giant has not publicly committed about the launch of this feature. Notably, earlier this year Spotify had also launched AI DJ feature that curates a continuous stream of music through voice feature, similar to a DJ at a music club. Overall, the company seems to be serious about bringing AI-oriented features and enhancing their users’ user experience.

Ola launches Krutrim AI – Made-in-India LLM for Indian languages
Last weekend, Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal announced the launch of Krutrim AI, a unique LLM model that can not only understand but also generate text in a variety of Indian languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Kannada. This is probably the first LLM model that has been customized in Indian languages. Krutrim AI has been trained on a massive dataset of text and code, including 2 trillion tokens and can be used for multitude of tasks, like translating text from one language to another, creating chatbot to interact with customers and automating customer service tasks. Additionally, it could also be used for speech and image recognition.

OpenAI suspends ByteDance’s account (here’s why)
In an interesting development, OpenAI suspends ByteDance’s account after the latter was accused of intellectual property violation. According to reports, ByteDance, the company behind TikTok, used OpenAI’s GPT technology to train their own large language model (LLM) in violation of OpenAI and Microsoft’s developer terms of service. No sooner than this report came out in media, OpenAI responded by suspending ByteDance’s account, effectively cutting off their access to GPT technology. OpenAI argues that ByteDance’s actions unfairly exploited their proprietary technology for commercial gain. ByteDance, on its part, has argued that use of OpenAI technology was completely in compliance with the service term.

Microsoft Office apps are now available on Meta Quest VR headsets
In exciting news for VR enthusiasts and productivity gurus alike, Meta Quest users can now access core Microsoft Office apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint directly on their headsets. These apps will be available on all leading Meta Quest VR headsets, including the original Oculus Quest, Quest 2, Quest Pro, and the latest model and Quest 3. These apps can be downloaded from the Meta Quest store. These apps run primarily in the cloud, so they’re quick to download and don’t take up much storage space on your headset. While not yet offering the full desktop suite experience, the VR apps retain core functionalities like document editing, spreadsheet creation, and presentation building.
