Turns out that the U.S. President Joe Biden has mixed feelings about Artificial Intelligence, which has  become a talk of the town in the wake of ChatGPT’s sensational success. Speaking at a meeting with top science and technology advisors, Biden said that it is responsibility of tech companies to ensure that AI products are 100% safe before their launch. The U.S. President, however, brought to the fore how AI could help in solving some of the pressing problems including climate change and diseases. Biden’s comments barely a week after scores tech experts including Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak signed a open letter that requested all the tech companies to temporarily their AI experiments, citing imminent risks that such experiments could pose to the society.

Layoff continues at Amazon, Cuts over 100 jobs in Gaming Division

Amazon is cutting over 100 jobs in its gaming division as part of its broad layoff that was announced over the last few months. The e-commerce giant is trimming jobs from its gaming divisions like Prime Gaming and Gaming Growth. Notably, these layoffs are separate from the 400 layoffs that were recently announced by Twitch, a live video game streaming platform owned by Amazon. Amazon Games has always struggled to get a strong foot in the American gaming marketing despite spending ample resources and even poaching high-profile talents from its competitors.

Richard Branson’s rocket firm Virgin Orbit files for Bankruptcy

British billionaire Richard Branson’s space company Virgin Orbit has filed for Bankruptcy in the U.S, according to BBC. The BBC report further claimed that the Virgin Orbit is currently looking for a buyer in the market. Last week Virgin Orbit hit the headlines after it laid off more than 90% of its workforce as it failed to secure the funding. Launched in 2017 as a sister firm of Branson’s space tourism company Virgin Galactic, Virgin Orbit was aimed at providing launch service to small satellites. However, the company could not achieve any commercial success as all its rocket launch trails ended in failure. In Its hey days, Virgin Orbit competed with Elon Musk’s space company Space X.

TikTok fined $16Mn in U.K for abusing Kids’ Data

Popular Chinese video sharing app TikTok has been levelled with a fine of $15.9 Mn by U.K. privacy regulator for its inability to safeguard children’s data. TikTok allegedly permitted nearly 1.4 Mn children below the age of 13 to use its app, violating its own rule that allows only children above the age of 13 to open TikTok account. This will come as a fresh setback for the Chinese video sharing app, which has been banned on government devices in several countries including the U.S, U.K, Canada and EU. On Monday Australia become the latest country to join this list.  These countries claim that TikTok’s data mining practices poses a grave danger to the national security of their countries. A allegation that TikTok flatly denies.

Germany could Fine Twitter over hate speech

Microblogging Twitter could potentially face heavy penalty in Germany over its failure to contain hate speech on its platform. According to media reports, Germany’s Federal Justice Office  has started a proceeding against Twitter under a domestic law following multiple complaints about Twitter’s failure in controlling hate speech. It is, however, not clear exactly how much penalty will be imposed on Twitter.
