Amazon Eyeing ‘Super app Dream’ with the help of Tapzo: Report

Ever wonder about booking your flight tickets and hotel room through your Amazon app. Today this idea sounds to too good to be true but this idea may indeed become true in couple of months from now. That’s because Amazon is reportedly planning to morph its shopping app into a super app to offer plethora of services under one roof. This will also include food delivery, cab booking, movie booking and other basic services.

Amazon is leveraging Tapzo to become a super app

According to media reports, Amazon India has already started beta testing flight bookings in partnership with popular travel portal Cleartrip. With this beta testing, it is also doing trail to offer other wide range of basic services.

Amazon India’s dream to become a super app appears all too conspicuous, after it had acquihired Tapzo, an “all-in-one” app in August last year. This acquihire allowed the e-commerce giant to integrate Tapzo’s expertise team into Amazon Pay. Tapzo aggregates more than 35 popular apps in various categories like bill/mobile recharge, news, food, cabs so and so forth. Some of the popular apps that customers can access through Tapzo are Uber, Ola, Swiggy, Zomato and Paytm.

Amazon’s super app dream doesn’t appear to be all that unrealistic given that it boosts cumulative base of nearly 150 Mn customers, out of which almost 20-25 Mn are monthly unique customers.

However, amazon is not the only one that is aiming to become super app. Flipkart’s payment unit PhonePe already offers diverse services like bill payments, cab booking and hotel booking through third party API.

There are also reports that Ola is seriously planning to make its app more holistic by bringing diverse services underneath it.

Analysts claim that Amazon and other companies are trying to replicate Tencent’s WeChat app. Although WeChat is a messaging app, it is also the most successful super app in China.
