Microsoft Releases SP2 For ‘Vista’ and ‘Server 2008’

Windows Server 2008 SP2 releaseMicrosoft has announced the Windows Server 2008 SP2 release. There has been two version updates, Service Pack 1 and latest being Service Pack 2.

It’s no big news that Windows Vista has been a terrible performer among the series of Microsoft‘s family of Operating systems. Everybody is waiting for Windows 7 like never before and most of the folks want to skip off current Windows OS (Vista, of course) and hop over the coming Windows 7, directly from Windows XP.

When we dare to count technical holes that exist in Vista, it all starts from Poor performance to issues such as  hardware compatibility & Network connectivity, Inefficient resource utilization and many other critical factors.

But leaving Client side OS apart, what’s the ‘Status Quo’ of MS’s Server side Operating system. With the latest version in the form of Microsoft Windows Server 2008, which got released on 27th Feb last year, there has been two version updates, Service Pack 1 (17th Sept,08) and latest being Service Pack 2 (April 28th,09), which released a couple of days back only.

The latest SP2 update applies to all versions of Windows Vista(Home Basic/Premium, Starter, Business, Enterprise, Ultimate) and its 64-bit editions as well. Apart from client side, this is applicable for a series of Windows Server 2008 operating systems mentioned below :

  • Windows Server 2008 Datacenter without Hyper-V
  • Windows Server 2008 Enterprise without Hyper-V
  • Windows Server 2008 for Itanium-Based Systems
  • Windows Server 2008 Standard without Hyper-V
  • Windows Server 2008 Datacenter
  • Windows Server 2008 Enterprise
  • Windows Server 2008 Standard

It’s plausible that the fresh SP2 release may patch many critical issues with Windows Server 2008 (for Vista, we aren’t really sure of). MS guys might be hoping that atleast Enterprise level version(Server 2008) gets proper justice this time with their latest release. We too reckon the same.
