Nokia has long back announced about joining hands with Microsoft for choosing Windows Phone 7 as their primary mobile OS. After a lot of buildup about leaks of Nokia’s Windows Phone Searay, etc. finally we have a launch from Nokia’s closet, the Nokia Lumia 800. The Nokia Lumia 800 is a WP7.5 Mango Phone which comes in a design pretty similar to the MeeGo based Nokia N9.

Nokia has stood up to its standard in terms of build quality and design. The body is made up of one piece of polycarbonate and is nearly scratch-free. The phone follows the Nokia’s newly adopted design trend, having sharp, non-rounded edges which gives the phone a smart look as well as sturdy hold.

But this makes the phone appear a lot more chunkier in pockets. All the buttons, be it the volume rocker or the camera key, are made of metal and are placed on the right edge of the phone. The top has the 3.5mm jack and a covered MiniUSB port. The left edge of the phone has no buttons. The phone will be available in three colours: pink, cyan, black.

A 1.4GhzQualcomm MSM8255 single-core processor empowers the phone. Lumia 800 has 512MB of SDRAM and a maximum of 16GB onboard memory with no slot for memory expansion. There is no USB-On-The-Go support either, so this memory cap could be a problem for people who wish to carry their whole music libraries with them.

Lumia 800 has a 3.7″ AMOLED Clear Black capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 800×480 pixels. The screen is made of curved Gorilla glass with three Windows Phone capacitive buttons at the bottom. The color saturation is very pretty good and the screen is bright enough to read in bright sunlight. The lack of notification LED might put down a lot of people. No special feature such as NFC, Bluetooth 3.0+HS are present.

The Lumia 800 sports a 8MP camera with Carl Zeiss Tessar optics lens. The camera is much better than most of the other 8MP cameras out there in the market. The camera captures even minute details in bright sunlight and delivers above average performance under poor light conditions.

This camera coupled with the blazing fast and intuitive WP7.5 camera application makes it a photographer’s delight. The camera can shoot upto 720p HD video at 30FPS.The video quality is also pretty good. The speakers present on the phone give a pretty decent sound output. the Quality is much better on the earphones though.

Windows phone 7 runs without a lag on the Lumia 800’s 1.4GHz processor. The OS is simple to use and has a very decent looking UI. The onscreen keyboard is very ease to use and the spacing between the button is fine enough to type even in the portrait mode. The navigation app lacks a few features but is great in terms of ease of use.

The Lumia 800 being the first Nokia Windows phone has a lot of things to prove. This phone might just be Stephen Elop’s answer to the world so as to why he chose Microsoft Windows Phone as their primary mobile OS. Windows Phone has a very fluid and decent UI but still it has a long way to go in terms of support of third party applications.
