If one talks about smartphones then iPhone,G1,Instinct,N97,Omnia,Palm Pre are few of the prominent names that come up but there’s another area where competition is rising alongside.That’s the ‘Built-in camera’.

Prominent manufacturers in this aspect are Nokia and Samsung with their N95 and onwards(5MP) and Innov8(8MP) leading the way.And now,Samsung has taken a big leap with its latest development under the belts.

According to Telecoms Korea,a korean publication has reported that Samsung is on its way to launch a 12MP camera phone in MWC 2009.This is way too far than what we have ever seen with any phone ever.

Detailed specs are not known as Samsung is yet to officially announce its 12MP phone.With such phones coming into market,it seems that Digital camera manufacturers are about to face tough competition from the mobile phone market.

But there’s a trend that has been followed so far.Masses are more inclined to smartphones(with avg. camera resolution) rather than conventional styled phones with high resolution cameras.

To be factual,the major success behind most popular smartphones today is their SDK(Software Development Kit) and tech. community contribution(app developers).Hardware matters to an extent but software part takes the cake away.Hence,it’s quite possible that Samsung’s 12MP camera phone will gain attention and a lot more buzz in media during MWC(two weeks away) this year but mass commercial success will be a big milestone to achieve.
