‘Friend Connect’ gets 1up : Adds “Twitter” ! But Is that enough ?

Google has just announced another inclusion of an access gateway in Google Friend Connect and that is your “Twitter Account”.Earlier there were four options to choose from(Google, Yahoo, AIM, and OpenID) and now Twitterhas  become the fifth option to join any third party website employing ‘Friend Connect’.

As the fight is already ON between ‘Friend Connect’ ,’Facebook Connect’ and ‘MySpaceID’,its a clear 1up of Google over Facebook and Myspace. But there’s still something where  ’Friend Connect’ lacks but Facebook,Myspace lead..

And that is  ’Decent User Profile‘.

Facebook and Myspace, being the two most popular social networks have a big chunk of online world population over it with well maintained/active profiles.

But in case of  ’Friend Connect’,the user profiles aren’t so maintained(Not much written about the users) and hence fail in grabbing more attention of other users. To be honest,’Google Friend Connect’ to me is appearing dull and more like another unalluring widget to any website that has implemented it.

I think, there needs to be more than what it is(right now) to actually create an active eco-system around any website/blog that implements ‘Friend Connect’.And i’m hopeful of some more annoucements from Google like this one(Twitter acc. inclusion) to make ‘Friend Connect’ a better option over the other two.

And i reckon, this race of controlling the ‘Global Identity’ of online users will be won by Google at the end.
