$10 Laptop for Indians ? Stop dreaming,Talk realistic !!

laptopThe much awaited project undertaken by students & concerned authorities at Vellore Institute of Technology,India to bridge the “Digital Divide” by manufacturing a $10(Rs.500) laptop turned out to be nothing more than an unrealistic and overexaggerated fantasy.

Today was the day when the “$10 Laptop” was scheduled to get out of the shell but more than anticipation, there was skepticism all around.According to reliable sources from the manufacturing industry,it was merely an immaturish thought to execute such an idea.To justify it,a ‘below average TFT screen costs minimum $20 to the manufacturers,a laptop is much more than a screen, isn’t it ?

And today at the inauguration of the National Mission on Education Programme organized by the Union HRD Ministry, joint secretary N K Sinha clarified that the famed “$10 Laptop” is just a basic computing device. It’s a 10 inches long and 5 inches wide device and has been priced at around $30 at the event.Hence,it was a completely wrong projection about the device.

According to an Indian news source,Times of India(TOI)

The so-called laptop actually turned out to be a storage device containing megabytes of data info which can be accessed by a user by connecting this device to a laptop. It meant that unlike the internet, this device can display that information that has already been stored.

Next time, the authorities better be sensible in promising anything to the public.
