I have used and I am still using an internet dongle and work pretty nice, though the speed is a bit small.

My experience of ‘dongles’ is plain awful. I prefer to plan my journey around free Wifi zones so that I know i’ll get connected. There’s no point in the hardware when network reception’s so poor where I commute.

It’s there in India as well. For Mobile Internet(Internet on Mobile handsets/smartphones), 3G services are being provided by BSNL and recently Reliance has announced its 3G services as well. Soon, most of the service providers will start providing 3G services(more competition, cheaper service).
In case of Mobile Broadband(Wireless Internet on laptop/PC), EV-DO services are provided by BSNL only and sooner TATA will also start providing HSDPA services(They have named it “Photon+”).
But if i were to suggest you any of the providers that i have mentioned for either ‘Mobile Internet’ or ‘Mobile Broadband’, i would suggest “Nobody”, simply bcoz most of the providers have just started out and coverage is very limited in metros. If you’re a kind of guy who will hardly go out of your local area and if your local area is covered by the xyz service provider then go for it….Pricing is also a concern…Wait for 6-8 months and you will see service rentals going down like never before.

i would like to know if mobile broadband is available in India, coz i am sick of using gprs coz its awefully slow (max speed 6kbps!)

I bought an MC727 for my laptop last year when I moved to thailand, and it has sometimes been faster than my nieghbours fixed line broadband. I have read that there is a revision B version of my dongle coming out that is 3x faster than I currently have. So yes, I belive that mobile broadband will overtake fixed line broadband! I also think we will see a lot of consumer goods with built in mobile broadband in the future.

I think this is a great idea, I know I have grown accustomed to taking my laptop and work with me everywhere I go.
