1) Don’t take anything for granted(such as revenues)
2) It’s very easy to rise but really tough to carry it on

They are countless more lessons that an entrepreneur(or wannapreneur) learns while striving to be the ‘Next millionaire on WWW‘.And probability that he actually turns a millionaire is just one-millionth but the lessons he learns become priceless for all his life.

And it’s always good for an entrepreneur to learn from other’s mistakes. What’s required is a complete knowledge/awareness of what’s happening in your industry(web).Just imagine if you saved around $20k by prohibiting yourself from a radical marketing More »

Orkut introduces Intra-chat !

December 1st, 2008 Comments Posted in Announcements, Digg out, Utility focussed, social network

This is to all the folks who have Orkut as one of their major social networking destination for fun and networking.Orkut has recently introduced ‘intra-chat’ feature.A feature that will let you have an active chat with your friends who’re online. It’s a good option over the old passive communication through scraps(non-instantaneous).

You can also set your status(available, busy, invisible, offline) as per your priority and can also customize the settings to make yourself available for chat to selected group of friends.

But it’s quite possible that you may not be able to use/see it immediately. It’s because just like the upgradation of new layout of Orkut(it took more than a week or so to get all the users over the new version),the team at Orkut is implementing intra-chat feature with a gradual pace. More »

7 habits of an “Actual” Web 2.0 Service

November 28th, 2008 Comments Posted in Digg out, Utility focussed

Although “Web 2.0” has millions of citations on the web today, its actual definition still faces some levelof speculation, even from critical identites such as Tim Berners Lee(better known as ‘Inventor of WWW’).

Nobody has yet been able to define “Web 2.0″ in a standard manner and the ultimate conclusion over this buzzword’s definition is quite blurred.

Actually,it’s not one but many features/innovations that came into limelight after dot-com burst which were identified as Web 2.0 features & technologies(features that were absent in earlier Web,before bubble burst). And that’s why one can’t define a standard(rigid) definition of Web 2.0 so easily.

One can rather imagine it as a set of features, which are fully or partially followed by any web service today and hence that web service prefers to call itself a “Web 2.0 service” even if it’s not following all the Web 2.0 features as such.

So,here are the core seven habits(features) that an “Actual”(not partial) Web 2.0 service follows.

Concept Brush-up : “What is 3G ?”

November 24th, 2008 Comments Posted in Digg out, Utility focussed

All your presumptions are not always right. The same happened with me.Being a guy who recently graduated with a B.Tech in Electronics & Telecomm. degree, the telecom industry was quite familiar already. And also the primary-advanced concepts and technologies employed in telecom. sector have all been thorough to me.

But when you’re in your own world, you tend to forget that just about everyone isn’t aware about the latest tech/mobile stuff as much as you know(and why should they care as everybody holds knowledge & expertise in their own space).

And that’s where i thought of writing a post clarifying a bundle of misconceptions that consumers have built up about the word “3G“.(as i have personally come across many folks who know that iPhone3G is a smartphone but don’t even know what “3G” stands for)

Here are some of usual interpretations of “3G“(all are wrong by the way !) More »

Why MySpace customer execs need some urgent web learning !

November 16th, 2008 Comments Posted in Digg out

This is one incident that made me laugh at the biggest social network of the planet called MySpace. And this must be quite embarassing for them to be into such a situation. The actual fault lies in their CRM deptt.

Recently,a post on TechCrunch revealed what went behind the curtains with Hubpages,a startup that lets users write articles and earn revenues from their write-ups.Interestingly,hubpages got screwed by myspace customer execs three consecutive times, for quite illogical reasons.

Like every other startup looking for more visitors,Hubpages marketing manager,Ryan Hupfer went ahead with the newly launched MySpace My Ads,a self service ad platform to More »

The positive side of ‘Dot com bubble’…

September 28th, 2008 Comments Posted in Digg out, events

The dot com bubble and its consequent burst-out is well known to most of us.We remember it as an event that crashed the US economy to an all time low.

It all started with companies like Netscape,Yahoo! & Excite and ended with dot coms like Pets & Boo.Few of them survived but most of them got their shutters closed after burning millions of dollars with absolute stupidity.

The worst part was the unexpected behaviour of Angels & Venture Capital firms who literally gambled over hundreds of dot coms and invested big bucks with no logical estimation and business plan.

The rule of ‘Get Big Fast‘ was the only motto of that phase and this rule was the prime motivation behind more than 250 dot-com IPOs in just one year(1999).

The outcome was simply tragic.’Bankrupcy’ & ‘Shutdown’ became a commonly used glossary for dot coms and there was even a dedicated website called FuckedCompany by Philip Kaplan which served as a ‘dot-com dead pool‘ at that time.

But still, the dot com bubble was necessary for the prosperous future of internet More »
