Amazon gets some relief : Shuts “Alexa Web Search Service” down !

When a product/service keeps taking a ‘maintainance toll’ on your pocket(‘you’ meaning an ‘enterprise’) but does not respond with  surviving/respectable revenues then it will definitely be a relief for you to kill it off.

Such product/service shutdowns has been occuring regularly such as Yahoo(Mash),Google(Lively) and now Amazon(Alexa web search).

Quite recently,Google announced shutdown of Lively,a virtual world service by Google and now it’s ‘Alexa Web Search’ by Amazon. The reason is quite the same…Dumping off the useless service(low traction, high maintainence, poor revenues)

And it seems a good idea of deprecating a web service showing poor response(after considerable efforts) to cut overall cost to the company rather than laying off staff or cutting employee’s salaries to help survive a doomed service.

That’s why big daddies are doing it first. As predicted earlier, you will come across more such shutdowns of Big Web enterprises.

It's a shame that Amazon ever felt the need to charge. They would of done much better by providing the API for free, if only to increase knowledge of Alexa. That being said, these are hard times and somethings as you say, it's best to shut down a service than put people out of a job!
